That desire could prove decisive. Bailey reports that Catamo is “more than open” to a move to the Premier League, attracted by the challenge of testing himself in England. For Newcastle and the rest of his admirers, that is a significant box ticked. No adaptation doubts. No question about motivation. He wants this step.

There is, at this stage, no indication that Newcastle have lodged a bid or opened formal talks with Sporting. The situation sits in a holding pattern, with clubs watching, the player performing, and Sporting holding firm to their €60 million valuation.
