Liverpool Eye January Transfers for Lamine Camara and Tyrick Mitchell
Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with the deal now described as a “real possibility” as the window edges closer – and a raid on Crystal Palace for Tyrick Mitchell is also on the table.
Camara back on Premier League radar
Camara has already had one dramatic brush with the Premier League. On deadline day, he was close to joining Chelsea, only for Monaco to pull the plug in the final hours of the window.
The 22-year-old had held lengthy talks with the London club, discussing his role and how he would fit into their project, and had given the green light to a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea thought they had their man. Monaco thought otherwise.
That collapse has not cooled interest. Chelsea still like him, but they are no longer alone.
Liverpool have now entered the frame and, according to Football Insider, have already “held talks” over a potential January transfer. The price, though, has shifted. Any club coming back to the table is expected to pay closer to €70m (£60m, $81m), a significant jump from the €55m (£47m, $63m) package Chelsea believed they had in place.
“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes,” Mick Brown told Football Insider, underlining that Liverpool are tracking his progress at Monaco and sense that a deal can be struck after Chelsea’s near-miss.
The player’s camp appears ready to move. His agent has been outspoken about pushing for a transfer, and that has only fuelled the belief that January could bring another serious attempt from England – this time with Liverpool at the front of the queue.
Left-back questions open door to Mitchell
While Liverpool’s recruitment team study midfield options, attention is also turning sharply to the left side of defence.
Andoni Iraola is understood to be keen on reinforcing at left-back. Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas are his main options, but neither offers total certainty. Kerkez has struggled to hit consistent form, while Tsimikas is heading into the final months of his contract and remains on the fringes of the starting XI.
That uncertainty has pushed Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell into focus.
Mitchell has already been linked with Manchester United, and Brown believes Liverpool are among the clubs seriously considering a move for the 25-year-old.
“Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell,” Brown said, pointing to the scarcity of reliable, Premier League-proven left-backs who deliver at his level.
Mitchell’s appeal is clear: week after week, he turns in steady, disciplined performances. He defends with authority, rarely switches off, and has steadily sharpened the attacking side of his game. Coaches know exactly what they are getting. Scouts like that.
“For any club looking for a left-back in the Premier League, there are not many options who come up with such consistent performances as Mitchell has for Crystal Palace,” Brown noted, describing him as a “top, top player”.
That profile places him squarely on the radar of the division’s elite. Liverpool’s doubts over Kerkez, Chelsea’s constant hunt for value in the market and United’s need to refresh their full-back options all converge on the same name.
Brown believes both Liverpool and Chelsea could realistically move for Mitchell, sensing an opportunity to sign a quality, homegrown defender without entering the very top end of the market.
The question now is simple: when the window opens and the phones start ringing, who makes the first decisive move – and who hesitates long enough to see a rival steal in?
