Cliftonville Nears Women's Premiership Title with 3-1 Win at Solitude
Cliftonville moved to the brink of the Women's Premiership crown on Friday night, taking care of their own business with a 3-1 win over Lisburn Rangers at Solitude and piling the pressure squarely on Glentoran.
By the final whistle, the equation was brutally simple: if Glentoran fail to beat Linfield at Blanchflower Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the title belongs to the Reds.
Reds ruthless, then relentless
Cliftonville played like a side who could almost feel the trophy in their hands. They were sharp, direct, and two goals up before Lisburn had really settled.
The breakthrough came from the spot. Teegan Lynch stepped up and converted, a composed finish that settled any early nerves and set the tone for the night.
The second was pure quality. From the edge of the box, Caitlin McGuinness let fly with a superb strike that flew past the Lisburn goalkeeper and underlined the gulf in confidence between the sides. Inside 35 minutes, Cliftonville were cruising and the home crowd could sense what was at stake.
The tempo dipped after the break but the control did not. Cliftonville managed the game, picked their moments, and when the third arrived on 76 minutes, it felt like confirmation rather than surprise. Louise McDaniel added her name to the scoresheet, stretching the advantage and tightening the Reds’ grip on top spot.
Lisburn Rangers did at least leave with something to show for their late effort. In the final minute, Abbie Smyth struck what was no more than a consolation, the damage already long done.
Cliftonville’s victory pushed them eight points clear of Glentoran, who now walk into their Belfast derby with Linfield knowing anything less than a win hands the championship to their rivals.
Late drama at Seaview as Crusaders edge five-goal contest
At Seaview, Crusaders Strikers and Larne Women served up a different kind of tension – a back-and-forth contest that refused to settle until the closing stages.
Emilee Leacock opened the scoring on 34 minutes, putting the Strikers in front and giving the hosts a deserved lead. Larne came out after the interval with purpose and were level almost immediately, Chloe Doak striking to reset the contest.
The pattern became familiar. Crusaders surged again, and Jessica Rea restored their advantage with a second for the home side. Larne refused to fold. Rachel Dennison dragged them back into it once more, making it 2-2 and setting up a frantic finale.
The decisive moment arrived eight minutes from time. Mia Reilly found the breakthrough, delivering the goal that finally broke Larne’s resistance and sealed a 3-2 win for Crusaders in a gripping encounter.
Six-goal chaos in Limavady
If Seaview brought drama, Limavady Showgrounds delivered chaos. Derry City and Lisburn Ladies shared six goals and the points in a wild 3-3 draw that swung one way, then the other, then back again.
Derry struck first and struck hard. Chelsea Sheerin opened the scoring, and Chelsea Scott doubled the lead, giving the home side a commanding position and Lisburn a mountain to climb.
Jessica Hall began the fightback, pulling one back to give Lisburn a lifeline. Just when it looked like Derry might carry a two-goal cushion into the break, Scott struck again, restoring the two-goal margin and capping a dominant first half from the hosts.
Lisburn refused to accept the script. They came out with renewed intent and gradually turned pressure into goals. Stacey Murdough cut the deficit, belief surged, and Sidra Younes Alsaidi completed the comeback, securing a point that had looked unlikely when they trailed 2-0 and then 3-1.
On a night of goals and shifting momentum across the league, Cliftonville emerged as the big winners. Now all eyes turn to Blanchflower Stadium, where Glentoran must respond or watch the title slip away.
