Brian Sorensen Joins Republic of Ireland Women’s Coaching Staff

Brian Sorensen is set to step back onto the international stage, with the former Everton manager poised to join the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their World Cup play-off push later this year.

The Dane is expected to come in as assistant coach, forming a new-look backroom partnership with Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley. It is a move that underlines Ireland’s intent ahead of a high‑pressure qualifying campaign.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current position as technical director of Aston Villa Women. He is not walking away from the club project in the Midlands; instead, he will link up with Ireland during international breaks, dropping into camp when the stakes are at their highest.

There is already a familiar thread running through the arrangement. Sorensen will work under manager Carla Ward, who previously went head-to-head with his Everton side in the Women’s Super League while in charge of Villa. Now, former rivals on the touchline will share the same technical area, pooling their experience for a defining few weeks in Ireland’s season.
