Westlife to Headline Katie Taylor’s Farewell Fight at Croke Park

Katie Taylor’s final walk to the ring will have a soundtrack worthy of the occasion.

Irish pop giants Westlife have been confirmed as the headline performers for Taylor’s farewell fight at Croke Park this Saturday, adding another layer of emotion to what is already shaping up to be one of the great sporting nights in Dublin.

The group will perform as part of the pre-fight entertainment and Taylor’s last ring walk, a moment that will see the Bray fighter stride out in front of more than 80,000 fans for the final bout of a storied professional career. In the opposite corner waits undefeated French contender Flora Pili, tasked with trying to spoil Taylor’s bid to bow out as a three-time undisputed world champion.

“We are so honoured to be asked by Taylor to share the stage on such a significant evening, adding that she has inspired the whole country and we couldn’t be prouder to perform for her at Croke Park, a stadium that also means so much to us.”

Westlife, who have long been intertwined with Irish stadium nights, did not hide what the invitation meant to them. They know the place well. Westlife have previously sold out Croke Park six times, turning the Dublin arena into their own vast chorus line. Their catalogue is built for big venues and bigger moments: more than 55 million records sold worldwide, 16 Irish No.1 singles, 14 UK chart-toppers, and anthems like Flying Without Wings, Queen of My Heart and You Raise Me Up that have echoed through arenas across the globe.

Now those same songs are set to roll around Croke Park once more, this time framing the last chapter of Ireland’s most decorated boxer. For Taylor, whose career has already filled arenas from London to New York, the combination of a home crowd, a historic title bid and one of Ireland’s biggest bands turns Saturday into something closer to a national event than a simple fight night.

The timing underlines Westlife’s enduring pull. Their Croke Park appearance lands just days before they begin a record-breaking 13-night residency at Dublin’s 3Arena from 10 September, part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. From stadium to arena, they are about to own the Dublin skyline for the month.

More acts are expected to be added to Saturday’s bill, with further entertainment announcements due later this week, but the headline pairing is already set: Westlife on the stage, Taylor in the ring, Croke Park as the backdrop.

For those not inside the stadium, Katie Taylor v Flora Pili will be shown live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, with live radio commentary on RTÉ 2FM, and the event broadcast worldwide on DAZN.
