Oleksandr Khizhnyak Enters WBA Light Heavyweight Rankings

Oleksandr Khizhnyak’s rise through the professional ranks has found its first official marker. The 2024 Olympic champion has broken into the World Boxing Association’s light heavyweight ratings, entering the latest list at No. 15.

It is a swift reward for a statement win.

In August, under the lights of Lviv, Khizhnyak claimed the first title of his professional career, outclassing Argentine fighter Elias Palacio Durval over ten rounds. The bout carried the WBA Gold International light heavyweight belt, and the Ukrainian treated it like a launchpad rather than a mere stepping stone.

The scorecards told the story of a one-sided night: 99–91, 98–92, and a shutout 100–90. Three judges, one verdict. Khizhnyak dominated.

That performance has now been translated into official recognition from the WBA. A place at No. 15 might look modest on paper, but for a newly crowned regional champion with an Olympic gold already in his trophy cabinet, it reads more like a warning to the rest of the division.

Khizhnyak’s name now sits on a global list that leads directly toward world-title contention. The belt in Lviv was the first step. The ranking suggests it will not be the last.
