“I did something crazy in 2012, I made Messi an offer worth 500 million euros,” he recalled. He dispatched Inter’s vice-president to Barcelona, armed with the proposal and the dream of dragging the era’s greatest player to San Siro.
The mission failed before it even began.
Messi, Moratti says, refused to read the offer. The letter stayed sealed. The figures inside — the salary, the bonuses, the sheer scale of the project — never reached him. He turned it down without knowing the details.
