Warriors Training Camp in Hawaii: Curry's Future Uncertain
The Warriors know where the chase resumes. They still don’t know exactly when Stephen Curry will promise to see it through.
Golden State confirmed Monday that it will open its 2026 training camp at BYU-Hawaii, returning the franchise to Oahu ahead of a six-game preseason slate that starts against the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 4. Dates, flights, hotels, opponents — all locked in.
The only thing not yet booked is the signature that will define the next era of Warriors basketball.
Camp in Paradise, Question in Ink
From Sept. 29 through Oct. 3, the Warriors will base themselves at BYU-Hawaii, then head to Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu to face the Clippers. It’s a familiar escape: their second camp on Oahu in three years and their sixth overall trip to BYU-Hawaii, after previous visits in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2024.
The itinerary after that is pure NBA preseason grind. Back to Chase Center to host the Lakers on Oct. 6. Up to Portland on Oct. 7. Home again to face Sacramento on Oct. 10. Then a neutral-site showcase against the Lakers at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 13, before closing the warm-up schedule against Portland at Chase Center on Oct. 16.
By the time the final buzzer sounds that night, Golden State would love to have something else finalized: Curry’s future.
Curry’s Clock, the Franchise’s Countdown
Curry became eligible Saturday for a two-year, $136.7 million maximum extension, a deal that would keep him under contract through the 2028-29 season. He is 38, entering the last year of his current agreement, worth $62.6 million.
There has been no trade request, no hint of restlessness, no sign he wants out. There also has been no pen to paper.
“There’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area.
The intent is clear. The timing is not.
General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has been blunt about the organization’s stance: Golden State wants the extension done before the season. The franchise would prefer to open camp in Hawaii with its greatest player tethered to the timeline on the whiteboard, not hovering over it.
Curry is in no rush.
“The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we’re not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season, and the fact that the team we’re coming back with has a lot of familiarity,” he said.
So the Warriors have a camp date. A preseason schedule. A framework for the year. They just don’t have the one commitment that matters most.
Familiar Faces, Fragile Health
That familiar roster Curry referenced will not be fully intact when the team gathers in Hawaii.
Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody are both recovering from significant knee injuries and are expected to miss the start of the season, stripping early continuity from a group that badly needs it. Golden State held onto Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton, then added Georges Niang, Brandon Williams and lottery pick Yaxel Lendeborg to reshape the edges of the rotation.
The core, the style, the expectations — those remain. The margin for error does not.
Golden State is coming off a 37-45 season in which injuries gutted its playoff push. Curry played only 43 games. For a team built around his gravity and rhythm, that absence weighed heavier than any single roster move.
This summer, health sits right alongside contracts and rotations on the list of priorities.
One Date Still Missing
The calendar is now clear.
Training camp opens Sept. 29. The preseason tips five days later. The Warriors will touch down in Honolulu, work under the Hawaiian sun, then fan out across the West Coast and Las Vegas, trying to stitch together form, fitness and belief after a bruising year.
Everything is plotted out, down to the day.
Everything except the moment the franchise’s defining figure decides exactly how long he plans to lead them.
The Warriors know when they’ll take the floor again. They’re still waiting to find out when Stephen Curry will officially commit to walking with them all the way to the finish.
