PSG Looks to Secure First Ligue 1 Win Against Lille
Paris Saint-Germain head north on Friday night still searching for their first Ligue 1 win of the new campaign, and Luis Enrique is ready to shake the tree.
A 2-2 draw at home to Rennes on the opening weekend has already tightened the mood around the champions. Sloppy, open, too generous without the ball – it was not the statement start PSG wanted. Lille away, to launch matchweek two, is no place to drift through another 90 minutes.
So the coach is changing things. Four of them.
A new look at the back
Nuno Mendes remains sidelined, his long-running injury problems denying PSG their natural left-sided outlet. That absence forces another rethink on the flank, and this time Lucas Digne is expected to come in for Lucas Hernández at left-back.
On the opposite side, Luis Enrique is ready to gamble. Warren Zaïre-Emery, the teenage midfielder who has already become a symbol of PSG’s new era, is set to be deployed as an unorthodox right-back in place of Achraf Hakimi. It is a bold call: creativity and control from deep, but with obvious defensive questions against a Lille side that loves to attack wide.
Marquinhos and Willian Pacho should continue at the heart of the defence, but the structure around them will feel very different. Lille will test that immediately.
Midfield surgery
The changes do not stop at the back line. In midfield, Lucas Beraldo is poised to come in for Vitinha, giving PSG a different profile in the centre of the pitch. Beraldo offers more bite and left-footed balance, a move that suggests Luis Enrique wants greater control in transitions after Rennes cut through too easily.
Alongside him, João Neves and Fabián Ruiz are expected to keep their places, forming a trio that leans more towards possession and tempo-setting than pure vertical chaos. PSG do not just need to win; they need to look like a side that can manage a game.
Torres rewarded, Dembélé rested
Up front, one of the few bright sparks from the Rennes draw gets his reward. Ousmane Dembélé is set to be rested, and Ferran Torres is in line for his full debut after stepping off the bench last weekend to rescue a point with two goals.
The message is clear: perform, and you play.
Torres should start from the right of the front three, with Désiré Doué offering invention and drive in support, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia bringing his familiar threat from the left. On paper, it is a front line with movement, goals, and plenty of angles of attack. On the pitch, it now has to deliver from the first whistle, not just in desperation.
Behind them, new goalkeeper Matvei Safonov will again marshal a reshaped defence that must look far less vulnerable than it did in Paris.
