Mukesh Kumar Joins Nottinghamshire for County Championship Title Run-in

Nottinghamshire have turned to India seam bowler Mukesh Kumar as they brace for a tense sprint to the County Championship finish line.

The 32-year-old, capped three times in Tests by India and last seen in the longest format against England earlier this year, has signed on at Trent Bridge with Notts firmly in the title fight. They sit second in Division One, only four points behind leaders Somerset, with just two matches left to decide the championship.

This is a late-season move with clear intent. Kumar arrives as a seasoned red-ball operator, having claimed 233 first-class wickets in a career spent entirely in India until now. He comes to England in rhythm too, fresh from a decisive performance in the Duleep Trophy final, where his 3-62 helped East Zone defeat South Zone and lift the trophy for the first time in 14 years.

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores described Kumar as a “quality” addition at “a crucial time of the season” – a telling choice of words for a side trying to cling to their crown under growing pressure from Somerset and the chasing pack.

A proven strike bowler, match-hardened in Indian conditions and arriving on the back of a title-winning display, now steps into the English autumn. Nottinghamshire will hope his impact is immediate, because the margin for error in this title defence has almost disappeared.
