Lhuan-dre Pretorius Makes History with T20 Century

Lhuan-dre Pretorius smashed his way into South African cricket history, becoming the youngest player from his country to score a T20 International century with a blistering 101 in Windhoek.

The 20-year-old opener, already in form after a 94 against Zimbabwe earlier in the week, went one better against Namibia in the Tri-Series, powering the Proteas to an 11-run victory in a high-scoring contest. He needed just 53 balls for his 101, lacing five fours and launching eight sixes as he tore into the Namibian attack.

If Pretorius lit the fuse, Connor Esterhuizen poured petrol on the fire.

Walking in with the platform set, Esterhuizen hammered 88 from only 40 deliveries, turning a strong start into a daunting total. The pair added 156 runs in just 11.5 overs, a stand that broke the game open and left Namibia chasing shadows in the field as the ball kept disappearing into the Windhoek evening.

By the time South Africa’s innings closed on 228 for four, the scoreboard looked more like something from a franchise league than an international fixture.

Namibia, though, refused to fold.

The hosts mounted a bold reply and kept pace for long stretches, finishing on 217 for three in a chase that never quite died. They stayed within striking distance deep into the innings, but the early damage from Pretorius and Esterhuizen proved decisive. South Africa’s bowlers did just enough to keep a lid on the scoring when it mattered, closing out an 11-run win in a match that belonged to the batters.

On a night of big hits and bigger statements, it was Pretorius’ name that cut through the noise — a new record, a first international hundred, and a clear signal that South Africa’s next generation is already kicking down the door.
