This is not a token cameo. Vardy is joining That's Football – the digital channel fronted by The United Stand host Mark Goldbridge – as part of a deliberate push by the Bundesliga to cut through a landscape dominated by the Premier League on British and Irish screens.

The move places one of English football’s most recognisable modern forwards at the heart of Germany’s top flight coverage for an audience that, for years, has largely treated the Bundesliga as a late-night curiosity or a scouting shop window. Now, that league is hitching itself to a very familiar face.

For the Bundesliga, it is a calculated play. By partnering with Goldbridge and now Vardy, Germany’s top division is leaning on personalities who already command huge online followings and speak directly to the Premier League generation. The message is obvious: if fans won’t come to the Bundesliga, the Bundesliga will come to them.
