Flavio Cobolli Shares Insights on Training with Jannik Sinner Ahead of His Return

Jannik Sinner is poised to make his return to professional tennis soon, with plans to compete at the China Open in Beijing next week. This event marks an important moment as he enters the tournament as the defending champion. The Italian star has been sidelined due to a knee injury since his victory over Alexander Zverev in the 2026 Wimbledon final.

Despite his absence, Sinner still holds the top spot in the ATP rankings. Yet, Zverev is closing in quickly after winning the US Open, trailing by less than 2000 points and with a chance to overtake Sinner before the season ends.

Training Session with Flavio Cobolli

In preparation for his comeback, Sinner trained in Monte Carlo recently, sharing court time with fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli. Cobolli, who was the runner-up at Roland Garros and is representing Team Europe at the Laver Cup in London this weekend, spoke about their practice together during an interview with Super Tennis TV.

"We joked around a lot," Cobolli said. "It was really nice to find him again on the court. Every time I have the occasion, I try to get the most out of the hours we play together. He's one of the people who teaches me the most; I am always up for it when it comes to training with him."

The 24-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career in 2026 and is making his third consecutive appearance at the Laver Cup. He debuted in 2024 when Team Europe prevented Team World from securing a three-peat.

Laver Cup Details

This year’s Laver Cup will feature Cobolli representing Team Europe, which is captained by Yannick Noah with Tim Henman as vice-captain. On the opposing side, Team World’s captain is Andre Agassi, assisted by vice-captain Pat Rafter.

Though Cobolli won’t play on the first day, the event kicks off with a doubles match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik versus Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz.
