Asif Khan Receives 15-Month Ban for Doping Violation

One of UAE’s most experienced white-ball batters, Asif Khan, has been ruled out of international cricket until the end of 2026 after accepting a 15‑month period of ineligibility for a doping offence.

The 34-year-old tested positive for a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance, in an out-of-competition test conducted on 8 September 2025. That date now marks the start of his suspension, which will run through to 7 December 2026.

A key figure in the UAE batting order since his debut in 2022, Asif has played 38 ODIs and 56 T20Is, building a reputation as one of the side’s more reliable and aggressive options in the middle order. That momentum has been abruptly halted.

The case moved quickly once the test result was confirmed. Asif admitted a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code – the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample – and chose not to contest the charge. He accepted the sanction via a Case Resolution Agreement involving the International Cricket Council and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The admission brought clarity, but it also carried a heavy competitive price. All of Asif’s individual results from 8 September 2025 up to the start of his provisional suspension on 29 December 2025 have been disqualified under the Code. That wipeout includes any medals, ranking points, prize money or awards earned in that period.

For UAE, it means planning without a seasoned limited-overs campaigner for the better part of two seasons. For Asif, the clock now ticks toward December 2026, and the long road back to international cricket.
