Manchester City Sign Allan Elias from Palmeiras for £34.2m
Manchester City’s squad overhaul under Enzo Maresca shows no sign of slowing. The latest piece of the puzzle is Allan Elias, a 22-year-old winger from Palmeiras, signed in a deal worth up to £34.2m and handed a five-year contract.
City have paid an initial £32m, with a further £2.2m tied to add-ons, for a player they view as a straight replacement for Savio, who left for Tottenham Hotspur in a £75m move last week. One Brazilian departs on the right flank; another, younger one, walks straight into the vacancy.
Allan arrives with a reputation forged in São Paulo rather than on the European stage. A product of Palmeiras’ academy, he climbed through the youth ranks and into the first team, making 96 appearances in all competitions. In that time he scored nine goals and supplied 12 assists, numbers that only tell part of the story for a winger whose game leans heavily on direct running and creativity from wide areas.
For Allan, the step from Allianz Parque to the Etihad is not just a transfer. It is a leap into the elite.
“This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players,” he said after signing. “To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life.
“I love Palmeiras and always will - but the decision to come to City was an easy one. I want to be the best footballer I can be and the conversations I've had with the people at City so far has convinced me there isn't a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions.”
Those ambitions will be tested in a dressing room being aggressively reshaped. Allan is only one part of a lavish summer that has already seen City spend more than £230m.
The headline figure so far belongs to Elliot Anderson, who arrived from Nottingham Forest for £116m, a fee that underlines how dramatically the market has shifted for Premier League-ready talent. Ayyoub Bouaddi, signed from Lille for £85.6m, adds another layer of technical quality and energy to Maresca’s options.
The recruitment drive is not over. City are in talks with Liverpool over Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, while Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez sits firmly on their list of targets. Maresca’s first squad is being built at speed, but not without a clear pattern: younger, technically secure players who can operate in multiple phases of the game.
Big arrivals have been balanced by even bigger exits. City have raised more than £286m in player sales, softening the blow of their spending and reshaping the core of the side that dominated recent seasons.
The most striking departure is Rodri. The 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner, the metronome of City’s midfield and the anchor of their era of control, has joined Barcelona in a £65m move. Losing such a central figure forces a tactical rethink as much as a financial recalibration.
Tijani Reijnders has also moved on, joining Al-Qadsiah for £52m, another deal that underlines how aggressively City are trading in this window. Established names out, fresh legs and fresh profiles in.
Into that swirl steps Allan, a right-sided winger asked to replace Savio’s output and offer something of his own. He arrives with raw numbers, potential, and the conviction that he has chosen the right stage.
