Juventus Sign Newcastle Forward Nick Woltemade on Loan
Juventus have moved to sharpen their attack with a season-long loan for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade, sealing a late-window deal they believe balances profile, price and flexibility.
The 24-year-old is expected in Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m loan fee, with no option or obligation to buy included in the agreement. For Juve, it is a calculated short-term play. For Newcastle, it is the release valve in a busy attacking reshuffle.
From record signing to rotation piece
Woltemade arrived on Tyneside from Stuttgart in August 2025 as a headline signing, a £69m statement of intent. Twelve months on, his status has shifted.
Newcastle’s new manager Matthias Jaissle has started him in only one of his first three matches in charge. Woltemade has been used more as an impact option, most notably off the bench at the weekend, when he set up Yoane Wissa’s goal in a 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur.
That cameo underlined his quality, but it did not change the broader picture. With competition for places growing and a new forward incoming, Newcastle were open to a deal that made financial and tactical sense.
Juventus choose fit over fireworks
Juve’s need was clear. With Jonathan David poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan, the club had been scouring the market for a forward who could slot in quickly without locking them into a long-term commitment.
Talks were held with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee after his proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed. United, though, pushed for an obligation-to-buy clause in any loan. Juventus walked away.
They see Woltemade as a better fit for what they want now – and crucially, at a lower cost. The absence of any purchase clause gives them clean exit routes next summer, while still giving coach and club a full season to assess him at Serie A level.
Newcastle clear the runway
The path for Woltemade’s departure opened once Newcastle accelerated their own plans at the top end of the pitch.
BBC Sport had already indicated that a move for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo could unlock Woltemade’s switch to Italy. That domino is now falling. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, a deal that reshapes Jaissle’s attacking options and budget.
With a major new arrival coming through the door, Newcastle could afford to let their record signing go on loan, banking a fee and freeing minutes for a retooled frontline.
Juventus now get their man, a 24-year-old with Bundesliga and Premier League experience, hungry to prove he is more than a rotation piece. How quickly he convinces in Turin will say plenty about both his trajectory and Juve’s judgement in a market where every misstep is brutally exposed.
