Bayern Munich Targets Michael Olise as New Key Player
Bayern Munich have made their choice. In a squad stacked with big names and established stars, they want Michael Olise to sit at the very top of the pay scale – and at the heart of their project.
According to French outlet L’Équipe, the German champions are preparing a new contract for the 24-year-old winger that would make him the highest earner at the club. Not just a reward, but a statement. His current deal already runs until 2029, yet Bayern are moving early, keen to lock down the France international and build the next era around him.
This is not a routine extension. It is a reshaping of the internal hierarchy.
From Crystal Palace talent to Bayern centrepiece
Olise arrived from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2024 as a highly rated Premier League talent. Since then, he has become one of Bayern’s standout performers, his left foot and creativity quickly turning him from promising signing into indispensable starter.
At 24, he offers something clubs at Bayern’s level crave: star quality now, and the prospect of even more to come. The board see him as a cornerstone, a player to frame a long-term sporting project around rather than simply another attacking option in a deep squad.
There had been dreams, and talk, of Real Madrid in Olise’s future. For now, those stay on hold. The report states he will remain in Germany for at least another season, with Bayern determined not just to keep him, but to convince him that Munich is where his prime years should unfold.
Kompany connection and the perfect setting
L’Équipe also underlines a key factor in this push: Vincent Kompany. The Bayern coach has built a strong relationship with Olise and, crucially, has found ways to elevate his game. Under Kompany, the winger has not just settled; he has grown.
The environment in Munich suits him. High expectations, Champions League nights, a squad accustomed to winning – and a manager willing to hand him responsibility. Bayern believe they have created the ideal platform for Olise to develop into one of Europe’s defining wide players, and they are ready to pay accordingly.
A new salary king in Munich?
If the deal goes through as planned, Olise will leapfrog some serious names. As of April 2026, Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala sat at the top of Bayern’s wage bill, each earning around 2.1 million euros per month. Behind them, Manuel Neuer was on 1.75 million, with Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano both at 1.66 million.
To place Olise above that group is to redraw the club’s internal map of status and value. Kane, the England captain and goal machine. Musiala, the homegrown jewel and face of Bayern’s future. Neuer and Kimmich, long-time leaders of the dressing room. Upamecano, a central piece of the back line.
Bayern are effectively saying: this is the man we’re betting on next.
The release clause twist
There is one structural change almost certain to be part of the negotiations. The first contract Olise signed in Munich did not include a release clause. The new one, L’Équipe reports, likely will.
That detail matters. It gives Bayern protection in the short term with a long contract and top-tier salary, but it also acknowledges the market reality around a player of Olise’s profile. If he continues on this trajectory and Europe’s superclubs circle again, a release clause would define the terms of any future battle for his signature.
For now, though, the power sits in Munich. Bayern have their winger, their plan, and soon, perhaps, their new highest-paid player.
If Olise keeps rising at this rate, the real question will not be why Bayern are doing everything to keep him – but whether even that will be enough.
