Barnsley Sign Connor O'Riordan on Loan from Blackburn Rovers

Barnsley have moved to strengthen their back line with the season-long loan signing of Blackburn Rovers defender Connor O'Riordan, securing an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

The 22-year-old, capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level, knows League One well. He spent the first half of last season at Doncaster, where he adjusted to the division’s physical edge and relentless schedule before being recalled to Ewood Park in January.

Back at Blackburn, O'Riordan forced his way into the picture, making six appearances in all competitions for the Championship side and offering a glimpse of his composure at a higher level. It wasn’t an extended run, but it was enough to underline his potential as a defender who can grow with regular minutes.

Barnsley are ready to give him exactly that. The loan comes with a clear safety net for the Tykes: if O'Riordan fits, they can keep him.

He could be thrown straight into the action, with a debut on the cards in Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient. A new club, a new back four, and a chance to turn a temporary move into something far more permanent.
