Sparta Rotterdam Pursues Isaac Babadi Loan from PSV

Sparta Rotterdam are moving to the front of the queue for Isaac Babadi, with the PSV midfielder on the verge of a loan switch to Het Kasteel before the Deadline Day clock runs out.

The 21-year-old has slipped to the fringes at the Philips Stadion, and PSV have opened the door for him to leave on a temporary deal. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, Sparta are now in pole position to land him, edging out Fortuna Sittard after both clubs pushed to secure his signature.

The interest has been bubbling for days. On Tuesday, Voetbal International revealed that Fortuna Sittard and Sparta were battling to take Babadi, sensing an opportunity around a talented player who has stalled for minutes under Peter Bosz. The Rotterdam side have now stepped in with enough conviction to tilt the race their way.

This move stands alone. It is not part of the recent transfer that saw Ayoni Santos swap Sparta for PSV, even if the timing invites easy comparisons. Babadi’s switch is a separate negotiation, shaped around his need for playing time and Sparta’s search for creativity and energy in midfield.

Financially, Sparta will not shoulder the entire wage packet. ED reports that the club will cover only part of Babadi’s salary, with PSV continuing to pay the rest, a clear sign that the Eindhoven giants still see value in protecting their asset. An official announcement is expected later on Deadline Day, once the final details are signed off.

Babadi remains tied to PSV on a long-term deal, contracted until mid-2028. He has already made 35 official first-team appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist, flashes of promise that have never quite turned into a permanent role.

Right now, though, he sits well outside Bosz’s core plans. His last appearance for PSV’s first team dates back to May of last year, a stark marker of how far his status has dipped.

Part of that gap stems from his loan spell at Royal Antwerp FC last season, where he featured 21 times in official matches. That stint gave him exposure, but not enough to force his way back into the PSV XI.

Now Sparta are ready to hand him the one thing he has been missing: a stage.
