Sacha Boey's Future at Bayern Munich Takes a Twist
What looked like a short Bayern Munich chapter for Sacha Boey may yet turn into something more substantial.
The German champions had been ready to move the French right-back on this summer, only for the clock to beat them. With the German transfer window now shut and no deal agreed, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has openly admitted the situation has swung back towards Boey staying put.
“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund told reporters on Friday, a clear shift in tone from the club’s earlier stance.
Bayern had explored options for Boey, who has struggled to establish himself since arriving in Munich. A parting of ways seemed the logical outcome, for player and club. Then the market stalled, and the exit route never properly opened.
Through it all, Freund stressed, Boey’s professionalism has never wavered.
“He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” the sporting director said, underlining that the defender’s attitude has impressed the hierarchy even as his future hung in the balance.
The equation is now simple. Once the remaining transfer windows across Europe close, Bayern will know definitively where they stand with the 25-year-old.
“When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad,” Freund concluded.
For Boey, a summer that was supposed to bring a fresh start elsewhere may instead hand him an unexpected second chance in Munich.
