Roma Eyes Free-Agent Market for Left Flank Solutions

Atalanta are looming on the fixture list, but at Trigoria the conversation is not only about tactics and line‑ups. It’s also about who isn’t there. The summer window closed without delivering the left-sided reinforcement Gian Piero Gasperini had asked for, and Roma have been forced into a delicate balancing act: compete now, and keep one eye on the pool of free agents.

The strategy is tight and unapologetic. No panic signing, no name for the sake of a headline. The club are ready to move only if a profile emerges that genuinely fits what Gasperini wants on that flank.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, one name sits neatly in that frame: Wilfried Zaha. The Ivorian came close to joining Roma back in 2023 and is again on the market after his most recent spell, available on a free. Versatile, experienced, and with a history of operating wide and cutting inside, he ticks several boxes for a coach who demands aggression and verticality from his wide players.

Zaha is not the only card on the table. Krépin Diatta is also under consideration, another free agent after leaving Monaco. The Senegalese attacker offers pace and direct running, the kind of profile that can stretch defences and give Gasperini an extra weapon in transition if Roma decide he fits the tactical puzzle.

Then there is a different type of option: Raphael Guerreiro. At 32, and coming off a season at Bayern Munich, the Portuguese would bring a more refined, multi-role interpretation of the left side. Comfortable as a full-back, wing-back or even drifting into midfield zones, he represents a more structured, technical solution for that corridor.
