QPR's Promising Start—Caution from Ian McCullough

Queens Park Rangers’ encouraging start has caught the eye, but one seasoned observer is urging a little restraint.

Ian McCullough, a QPR supporter and journalist, sees clear signs of progress in the opening weeks of the campaign, particularly in the depth now available to the head coach. The weekend win at Blackburn, he argued, underlined that shift.

“At Blackburn at the weekend, they won the game through the strength of the bench,” McCullough said, highlighting an area that repeatedly let Rangers down last season. This time, when the game tightened and legs tired, QPR had answers.

“They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed,” he added, pointing to a squad that no longer feels one injury away from crisis.

The caution comes with the fixture list. McCullough stressed that, for all the optimism, QPR have so far faced teams they should expect to handle at this level.

“But as I keep saying with QPR, they've played three teams really that they should be beating - Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton. Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked.”

The early signs are promising. The real examination, McCullough implies, is still to come.
