John Mousinho Furious Over Incident Involving Krystian Bielik

John Mousinho admits he was “absolutely furious” over the position he was placed in after an incident involving Krystian Bielik and a supporter overshadowed Portsmouth’s win against Cardiff City.

The flashpoint came late in the second half, as Cardiff defender Bielik went to collect the ball from the crowd. What should have been a routine restart erupted into confrontation, with the Polish defender becoming involved in a physical altercation with a fan.

Hampshire Police later confirmed they had opened an investigation into an incident “in which a teenage boy was reportedly the victim of a common assault”.

In the immediate aftermath, Mousinho apologised to Cardiff’s players and condemned the behaviour of the home supporters he believed were at fault. Those comments, he now says, were made without seeing the incident for himself.

Speaking on Wednesday, ahead of Portsmouth’s clash with Charlton, Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent his initial reaction had been shaped entirely by second-hand information.

“I've now seen the footage and my comments post-match were entirely based off what I was told,” he said.

“When the altercation kicked off I couldn't see it from where I was myself, the referee then spoke to us and his words at the time were very clear that he had seen the incident in its entirety.

“He said that as Krystian went over to get the ball, the fan slapped him, and a second fan threw a ball at Perry Ng's head.”

The footage has now given Mousinho a different perspective on a moment that has drawn in the club, the police and the wider game, and left the Portsmouth head coach bristling at how quickly he was forced to judge an incident he never actually saw.
