Harry Kane Set to Extend Bayern Contract Amid Manchester United Interest

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been eyeing Harry Kane as the statement centre-forward to lead Manchester United’s new era. That dream is about to collide with reality in Bavaria.

Kane, whose Bayern Munich contract runs out at the end of the season, has been firmly on United’s radar. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey revealed on August 10 that United are among the clubs keen on the England captain, with sources indicating Ratcliffe is a huge admirer and would relish the chance to install him as the focal point at Old Trafford.

United, it is understood, were prepared to explore a deal for the former Tottenham Hotspur striker, viewing him as the elite, ready-made No 9 to transform their attack.

But the timing looks all wrong.

Bayern move to lock Kane down

While United’s interest has simmered, Bayern have been moving in the opposite direction. The German champions are ready to put a new three-year contract on the table for the 33-year-old, intent on tying down the man they see as the face of their forward line.

Bailey had already reported that Kane’s preference was to remain in Munich. Now, the German media are closing in on the next step: an announcement on his future is expected next month.

Bild journalist Christian Falk, writing on his CFBayernInsider site, lifted the curtain on the mood inside Bayern during the Sport Bild Awards, where Kane was named their football star of the year.

Kane joined the ceremony via Zoom, while his father, Pat, attended in person at the Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg. Falk spoke with club president Herbert Hainer and came away with a clear impression: Bayern are calm, bordering on relaxed, about the situation.

Everyone, Falk reported, believes a new deal is only a matter of time. There are still details to iron out in the talks, but the confidence inside the club is strong that an agreement will be reached.

Off the market – and out of reach

Falk expects clarity soon. He indicated that a contract announcement should arrive within the next month, and certainly before the year is out. His conviction is blunt: Kane will sign an extension that runs beyond 2026.

Once that happens, the equation changes completely. Kane, long admired at Old Trafford, would be effectively off the market “for a long time”, as Falk put it, shutting down any realistic prospect of United prising him away.

For Ratcliffe and United’s recruitment team, the message from Munich could hardly be clearer: if Harry Kane was the dream, it is one they will have to wake up from and look elsewhere to solve their No 9 problem.
