Chelsea’s interest in Koné has escalated quickly. After sounding out several options – including Monaco’s Lamine Camara – the focus has locked onto the 25-year-old Roma midfielder.

Italian reporter Nico Schira claimed the first major move came in the form of a €65m (£56m) offer from Chelsea, a bid that underlines how badly the Premier League side want to secure a replacement before sanctioning Fernandez’s exit. Schira added that Koné is viewed as “non-transferable” by Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini, leaving the final call with both the player and owner Dan Friedkin.
Just as that figure began to circulate, Gianluca Di Marzio provided a slightly different angle. He described the Koné deal as “advanced” between Chelsea and Roma, but at a lower price point, citing a fee of around £52m. Either way, the direction of travel is clear: Chelsea are deep in negotiations and edging closer to the kind of agreement that would satisfy one of their key conditions for selling Fernandez.
Enzo’s future tied to Chelsea’s replacement hunt
Fernandez is at the centre of one of the summer’s biggest sagas. Manchester City are prepared to pay around £120m for the Argentina international, a fee that would shatter their club record and make him the most expensive midfielder in football history.
The player’s stance is no secret. Fernandez is keen to make the move to the Etihad and link up with Pep Guardiola’s side. Chelsea, for their part, are not slamming the door. They are willing to sell, but only on their terms.
