Alisson Fined £8,000 for Tunnel Outburst After Controversial Penalty Decision

Alisson Becker has been hit with an £8,000 fine by the Football Association after the Liverpool goalkeeper lost his temper in the aftermath of a controversial penalty decision.

The Brazilian’s frustration boiled over at full-time, when he took his anger out on the fourth official’s electronic numbers board on his way back to the dressing room. The FA confirmed he had been charged with misconduct for his behaviour in the tunnel area after the whistle and that he has accepted the charge, receiving the standard penalty.

“It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle. Alisson Becker has subsequently accepted the charge against him and received the standard penalty,” read the governing body’s statement.

His fury stemmed from a late flashpoint involving Neco Williams. A penalty was awarded after contact from Alisson on the defender, even though Williams had already got his shot away before the collision. The Liverpool keeper reacted incredulously on the pitch, and the anger clearly followed him down the tunnel.

The incident came at the end of a chaotic spell. The fourth official’s numbers board had malfunctioned, delaying a triple substitution Andoni Iraola was trying to make. That stoppage added to the sense of disorder before the spot-kick call that pushed Alisson over the edge.

Days later, the Key Match Incident (KMI) Panel delivered its verdict: referee Sam Barrott had made the wrong decision in awarding the penalty.

The fine stands. The decision does not.
